In Spring of 2020, Caucasian writer Jeanine Cummins debuted her novel American Dirt published by Flatiron Books. In this novel. In her novel she attempts to tell the story of the Latinx migrant experience of border crossing using a plethora of harmful stereotypes and tropes.. This chapbook publication is a response by writers of color to her gross representation of the Latinx experience as well as a response to the publishing community at large who continue to privilege the voices of white writers while WOC struggle to publish about their own experiences.
